DIAMOND Creek illustrator Trevor Wood has dug deep into the realm of the living dead to come up with a comic book about a zombie odd couple.

Wood teamed up with North Melbourne writer Jen Breach to make the five-story comic book about a "pompous English buffoon and a rough and ready cowboy".

The two zombie characters, Sheriff Sawyer and Bones O'Brien, get involved in a series of comic adventures, with the focus firmly on slapstick.

"The violence is implied rather than shown," Wood said.

Wood and Breach developed the characters from another comic on which they had worked.

They said the appeal of the characters made it easy for them to create a whole comic book of scenarios.

"We put them in everyday situations and instead of dealing with the situation normally, they eat your brains," Wood said.

Sawbones Volume 1 is available at comic stores and www.sawbonesonline .com.
